GRANTS & FELLOWSHIPS FOR 2008-2009

 

Undergraduate Awards
Jameson Prize: This prize of $250 is offered each year for the best undergraduate paper on women. Initiated in 1989 by Dr. Elizabeth Jameson and first awarded in 1990, the prize is now funded by Dr. Grace Jameson of Galveston in honor of her late husband, Dr. Henry Jameson, B.S. 1941, D.V.M. 1943, in recognition of his support for women's education. The deadline for turning in the application is Wednesday, February 18, 2009. The announcements are to be put up by the end of September. Download Flyer

 

Graduate Awards
Graduate Dissertation Fellowships

The Women's Studies Program announces the availability of 2-3 Graduate Research Fellowships of up to $1,000 for the support of dissertation research and $750 for master's thesis research on topics relevant to Women's Studies. This would include, for example, research on gender roles and expectations, gender-based discrimination, women's historical achievements, women's literature, women & politics, feminist literary criticism, media images of men and women, feminist theory, and other gender-related issues. Relevant projects in any discipline are eligible for consideration, and those incorporating interdisciplinary perspectives are encouraged. Graduate Student Travel Grants:
The Women's Studies Program announces the availability of Graduate Travel Assistance Grants. Graduate students who are presenting papers relevant to Women's Studies in conferences may apply to the Women's Studies Program for small travel grants to supplement departmental funding (up to $200 for domestic travel expenses). Faculty awards:
Women’s Studies Curriculum Development Grants:

The Women's Studies Program Review Committee announces the availability of Course Development Grants and Curriculum Diversity Grants. Small grants are available for the development of new courses to be cross-listed with Women's Studies and course enhancement to allow faculty members to revise existing Women's Studies courses (cross-listed) to incorporate material reflecting issues of diversity and globalization. Women’s Studies / Glasscock Center Stipendiary Faculty Fellowships:
The Melbern G. Glasscock Center for Humanities Research partners with Women’s Studies to provide a Faculty Stipendiary Fellowship in Women’s Studies, which provides a $1,500 award to tenured and tenure-track faculty to support research expenses. Applications must be made on line. Details of the program and the application form can be found at http://glasscock.tamu.edu/PDFs/Calls/StipFacFell.pdf. After the deadline for submission, 6 March 2009, has passed, the Center will send the applications it has received to the Women’s Studies Program for evaluation and selection.
