Deadline: mid-April.
The Business and Professional Women's Foundation provides financial assistance to women seeking additional education to advance in their careers or re-enter the workforce.  Scholarship applicants must be women 25 years of age or older. They also must be officially accepted into an accredited program or course of study at a U.S. institution and must be graduating within 12 to 24 months from the date of grant. Applicants must also demonstrate critical need for financial assistance.

 

CCWH/Berkshire Conference of Women Historians Graduate Student Awards

Deadline:  on or around October 1 of each year. The Coordinating Council on Women in the Historical Profession and the Berkshire Conference of Women Historians co-sponsor annual competitions for a $500 Graduate Student Award to assist in the completion of dissertation work. The award is intended to support either a crucial stage of research or the final year of writing. The applicant must be a woman graduate student in a history department in a U.S. institution; must have passed to A.B.D. status by the time of application; may specialize in any field of history; may hold this award and others simultaneously; and need not attend the award ceremony to receive the award.

 

The Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships

Application deadline:  annually in early November.  These fellowships are not specifically tailored to gender studies but often work well with that focus, as they are designed to encourage original and significant study of ethical or religious values in all fields of the humanities and social sciences.

A searchable database of more than 400,000 private sector scholarships, fellowships, grants, and loans from more than 3,000 sources for all levels of higher education. First-time visitors have to register (first and last name and a user ID), then complete a profile, including background and fields of study. Registrants then receive a list of all currently relevant funding sources. The registration information is stored and can be used on subsequent visits. The entire sign-up process, and delivery of available funding sources, can be about five to 20 minutes, depending on connection speed. Approximately 500 new scholarships are added to the database daily, so registrants can stay current.

HORIZONS Foundation Scholarship Program

The organization Women in Defense sponsors the HORIZONS scholarship award to encourage women to pursue careers related to U.S. national security interests. Applicants should be pursuing studies in engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, business, law, international relations, political science, operations research or economics (or another discipline if you can demonstrate its relevance to a career in national security or defense). Both graduate and undergraduate students may apply; undergraduates must have attained at least junior status (60 credits). Scholarships range from $500 to $2000, and recipients of past awards may reapply for further financial aid.

 

International Federation of University Women Fellowships and Grants
[http://www.ifuw.org/i_fell.htm].  The International Federation of University Women offers a limited number of fellowships and grants to women graduates for advanced research, study and training. The competitions are normally held every two years. Many of IFUW's 69 national federations and associations offer fellowships, scholarships and grants to women in their countries and to IFUW members from other parts of the world.

Mary Lily Research Grants Program

Application deadline:  annually in mid-January.  The Mary Lily Research Grants are for research using the collections held by the Sallie Bingham Center at Duke University, which is particularly strong in the history of feminist activism and theory, prescriptive literature, girls' literature, artist's books by women, lay and ordained church women, gender expression, women's sexuality, and the history and culture of women in the South. Grant money may be used for travel to the Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Library, costs of copying pertinent archival resources, and living expenses while pursuing research in Durham. The maximum award per applicant is $1,000.  Award recipients include both graduate students and faculty members.

P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship for Women

Deadline: late January.  Grants-in-aid for selected women from other countries for graduate study in the United States or Canada. The maximum grant awarded to a student is $5,000 annually. Recipients may re-apply and receive the scholarship for a maximum of three years. Eligibility: An applicant must be qualified for admission to full-time graduate study, working towards a graduate degree in the college or university of her choice in the United States or Canada. Eligibility form must be completed before application materials can be sent to applicants.

 

P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education

Awards grants and scholarships to single parent women and their children. Raise The Nation provides money directly to colleges, universities and student loan providers for the purpose of helping these women complete and pay for their education. We also offer assistance for childcare, books and other basic needs. Scholarships are awarded twice a year and distribution of funds is directly related to our success in fundraising.

 

Roller Panhellenic Scholarship (Mary Louise)

The R.O.S.E. (Regaining One's Self-Esteem) Fund is committed to helping women victims of violence by supporting educational and awareness programs and assisting individual women survivors of violence to rebuild their lives and regain their self-esteem. Talbots Womens Scholarships Fund

Women's Research & Education Institute Congressional Fellowships

Application deadline: mid-June.  WREI awards annual fellowships to a select number of graduate students with a proven commitment to equity for women. WREI Fellows gain practical policymaking experience and graduate credit as they work from January to August as Congressional legislative aides in Washington, D.C. Fellows receive stipends for tuition and living expenses. ELIGIBILITY: Only students who are currently in, or have recently completed, a graduate or professional-degree program at an accredited institution in the United States are eligible. Fellows are selected on the basis of academic competence as well as their demonstrated interest in the public policy process. They are expected to be articulate and adaptable and to have strong writing skills. FUNDING: Each fellow receives a monthly stipend of $1,300. WREI will also reimburse Fellows up to a maximum of $1,500 over two semesters ($750 per semester) for the cost of credit hours at their home institutions. An additional sum of $500 is provided for the purchase of health insurance.

 

Woodrow Wilson Dissertation Grants in Women's Studies

Application deadline:  annually in early October.  The Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation provides annual dissertation fellowships to encourage original and significant research about women on such topics as the evolution of women's role in society, women in history, the psychology of women, and women as seen in literature and art. Special grants are also available for dissertations regarding women's or children's health. The research to be supported should cross disciplinary, regional, or cultural boundaries.  Previous Fellows have explored such topics as women's role in African American adult literacy, women's sports, militarism and the education of American women, the urban crisis, gender and globalization in Indian film, and the dynamics of employment and childbearing.  Applicants must be doctoral candidates who have completed all pre-dissertation requirements, including approval of the dissertation proposal, and expect to complete their dissertations by the summer of 2007.  Candidates who are within a few months of completing their work should not apply.  Ten awards will be announced. The stipend amount is $3,000, to be used for expenses connected with the dissertation.  These may include, but are not limited to, travel, books, microfilming, taping, and computer services.
